How Do Period Underwear Work?
How Do Period Underwear Work?
Period/leakproof underwear works by using a combination of absorbent and waterproof layers to trap and lock in menstrual flow. The top layer wicks away moisture and keeps you dry, while the inner layers absorb liquid and the leakproof layer prevents leaks. Designed for comfort and performance, Aisle period underwear can be worn alone or as backup for other period products.

FAQ
How do Essential period underwear work?
Essential period underwear feature three types of fabric technology to keep you dry and comfy all day long.
The moisture wicking top layer draws fluid away from the skin and into the super absorbent core. Our leakproof lining stops leaks in their tracks while maintaining breathability, so you can bleed easy.
Do your period underwear contain PFAS?
We do not add PFAS to any of our products. In addition to using OEKO-TEX certified materials, which are tested for the presence of PFAS, we also conduct additional third-party tests. No detectable levels of PFAS have been found in our underwear, based on a detectable limit of one part per million.
How are Essential period underwear different from Boost and Super period underwear?
Essential period underwear are our thinnest, most lightweight option. Made with super-soft, breathable & sustainable fabrics like our other styles, and featuring an ultra-thin, all-in-one gusset design that absorbs 2-4 tampons worth of fluid depending on the cut. Essential period undies are recommended for light to moderate flow.
I have heavy flow. Are these the most absorbent period underwear?
Essential period underwear provide 4+ tampons worth of absorbency for light to moderate flow. For heavy flow options, check out Super period underwear, or adjustable-absorbency Boost period underwear.
Very comfortable and provide good coverage without feeling bulky.
These underwear are so comfortable, fit so well, and have excellent coverage! I often find the crotch of underwear to be too narrow but these are perfect and have exactly the right amount of coverage right where you need it. Compared to the original essential briefs I purchased 5 years ago I really appreciate the updated fit that the band is narrower and less tight and the fabric is less thick and more breathable.
I am a size 16-18 and typically fit a 2X but tend to size up to 3X using measurements on underwear as I have big hips and hate the band digging into me. I find the 3X really comfortable and fit true to size.
They are very comfortable and don't ride up!!! Love them.
As someone who has two IUDs and hadn’t had a period in 10 years, Aisle is hands down the most comfortable way to menstruate. If only they had these when I was younger I probably would have avoided the “off switch” option entirely!
